ECON31031: Advanced Econometrics builds on foundational econometrics by expanding microdata analysis, particularly for models with limited dependent responses, and introducing macroeconomic time series models. Students will apply the Maximum Likelihood method to estimate and test IID econometric models, extend microdata modelling skills to nonlinear cases (binary response variables), and analyse stationary time series processes. They will also learn to define and test for non-stationarity in time series data and use Vector Autoregressions (VARs) for multivariate modelling.

The course requires prior knowledge of econometrics (ECON20110) and is divided into two parts. The first focuses on theory and microdata models, covering parametric Maximum Likelihood estimation and binary response models, using R for implementation. The second part introduces macrodata models, including stationary processes, unit root tests for non-stationarity, and Vector Autoregressions (VARs), also using R for practical applications.
