FN2190: Asset pricing and financial markets explores how financial markets function and how different securities are priced. Key topics include time value of money, bond and stock valuation, portfolio theory, market efficiency, and derivative pricing. Students will learn to apply present value and arbitrage-free pricing methods, compute risk and return for portfolios, evaluate the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), and analyse market efficiency. The course also covers derivatives such as forwards, futures, and options, including pricing models like binomial trees and Black-Scholes.

To enrol, students must have attempted EC1002: Introduction to Economics and one of MT105a, MT105b, MT1174, or MT1186 (various mathematics courses). This course cannot be taken alongside AC3059: Financial Management or FN3092: Corporate Finance. By the end of the course, students will be able to differentiate between financial instruments, value assets, construct and evaluate investment portfolios, and apply key financial theories in real-world scenarios.
