ACCT5020 - Corporate Finance and Investment Decisions (Solutions)

The ACCT5020 module, Corporate Finance and Investment Decisions, builds on foundational knowledge from earlier stages in Finance and focuses on applying financial theories and models in practical contexts. Students will engage with real-world financial data to critically analyse how theoretical concepts operate in practice, especially within financial markets. A central feature of the module is a year-long portfolio investment project that supports learning across all topics. Key themes include pricing models, the Efficient Market Hypothesis and its empirical evidence, capital structure decisions in a tax environment, investment-financing decision interactions, risk management strategies, valuation models, and Mergers & Acquisitions.

Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to critically assess financial theories and apply them in real-world settings, particularly in financial management and market operations. They will develop the ability to use investment, financing, and dividend decision-making concepts both theoretically and practically, while understanding the strengths and limitations of advanced quantitative methods. Students will also gain skills in summarising financial aspects of dividend policies, capital structures, finance sources, and mergers. Additionally, they will demonstrate the ability to evaluate financial theories and appreciate the practical realities of stock market investing.
