The aim of the course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the principles, concepts and techniques of financial accounting.

The nature, purpose and development of financial accounting – scope and purpose for external reporting; users and their information needs; the main elements of financial reports; the regulatory system (IFRSF, IASB, IFRS AC, IFRS IC); International Financial Reporting Standards; definition of governance in relation to the preparation financial statements; duties and responsibilities of responsible for this governance.
The qualitative characteristics – IASB Framework; definition and application of characteristics; definition and application of accounting concepts.
Double entry, including recording transactions and events – the accounting equation; accounting records (ledgers, books of prime entry, journals); sources of accounting information; sales, purchases, cash, inventory, tangible non-current assets, deprecation, accruals, prepayments, receivables, payables, capital structure, finance costs.
Period-end account balances – trial balance; correction of errors; control accounts and reconciliations; bank reconciliations; suspense accounts.
Basic financial statements – statements of financial position; statements of profit or loss and other comprehensive income; statements of cash flow; incomplete records.
Interpretation – importance and purpose; ratios; analysis of financial statements.
